The Investment TeamEdward Beckett and Edward Rudd have worked together since 2002, managing early stage unquoted companies. During that time they worked alongside Robin Finlayson and Ron Petersen before establing Longbow Capital in 2004. Since then they have been joined by Julian Hickman and Dr. Keith Powell.

    Edward is Managing Partner of Longbow focusing on investment activity and ongoing support for portfolio companies. He has advised on, participated in or led investments into over twenty early stage companies across a broad range of sectors. He is non executive director of Cyden Ltd, DTV Group Ltd and Direct Health Ltd.

    Edward has undertaken a wide range of venture capital, project finance and investment initiatives including food, drink and medical supplies in Russia during the early 1990s, and the acquisition and development of leisure businesses in the UK.

  • Edward Rudd Partner
    Edward focuses on sourcing investment opportunities and due diligence. His investment experience has included many University spinouts, primarily in the life sciences sector but also including nanotechnology and software. He is non executive director of Domainex Ltd and Biotronics 3D Ltd.

    Edward graduated from Oxford University and joined BZW where he worked in the investment management and equity capital markets divisions. He left to join KPMG in Birmingham where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant. From 2002 until the establishment of Longbow Capital he was an investment executive and Finance Director at an early stage venture capital firm in London.

  • Julian Hickman Partner
    Julian is responsible for running Longbow’s private client operations; marketing Longbow’s funds and managing the clients who invest in them.

    Julian graduated with a Chemistry degree from Durham University and then spent 10 years as a pilot in the Army. After an MBA at Henley he joined Rensburg as an investment manager before moving to Cazenove where he built the intermediaries team. Focusing on SIPPs this was the fastest growing business in new FUM at Cazenove.

  • Robin Finlayson Managing Partner (Scotland)
    Robin is Managing Partner at Longbow’s Edinburgh office with responsibility for Scottish investment activity and Longbow’s compliance and finance functions.

    At Ernst & Young he was Managing Partner of the Edinburgh Office, Regional Head of Entrepreneurial Services and Head of Taxation. In 2000, Robin co-founded Caledonian Heritable Investments Limited, a £26m private investment vehicle specialising in early stage unquoted investments. Robin is non-executive director of PWB Health Ltd and Lumicure Ltd.

  • Ron Petersen Partner, Entrepreneur in Residence
    Ron is an ‘Entrepreneur-in-Residence’ at Longbow Capital, and, as such, provides the management assistance to portfolio companies as well as being adept at unearthing new business opportunities. Currently Ron is acting part time CEO of the Boots Centre for Innovation and CEO of CyDen Ltd and Nfab Ltd; both portfolio companies.

    Ron spent over 20 years with Armstrong World Industries, managing global businesses from a London base. In 1992, Ron began to specialise in turning underperforming or early stage companies into profitable and valued concerns. Examples of companies with which he has been involved in this way include Insituform Group, Bridon, Brunel Holdings, and Oystertec.

  • Dr Keith Powell Partner, Entrepreneur in Residence
    Keith is an ‘Entrepreneur-in-Residence’ at Longbow Capital with particular responsibility for providing management assistance to biotechnology companies, and playing an active role reviewing new investment opportunities in that sector. He was acting CEO of Domainex Ltd at the time of Longbow’s investment into that company but has now relinquished that role to work full time as the CEO of Polytherics Ltd, another Longbow investment.

    Before joining Longbow Keith was ‘Entrepreneur in Residence’ at the Bloomsbury BioSeed Fund, a biotechnology seed fund. Most of Keith’s career has been spent at ICI and then Zeneca where he led many groups including “Discovery”, introducing high throughput screening.
